The currently four-time world champion had an enormously successful period in the 1980s. At the 1982 World Cup in Spain, they reached the final, but lost to the Italians; four years later, they equalled this performance, but this time the Argentinians were the culprits. In 1990, the Germans were again in Italy where they reached the final, but unlike four years earlier, they won against the Argentines, and thus took their second world title.
