Norway was grouped with Greece, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Moldova, and Malta in the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers. A notable highlight was their 1–1 draw with Brazil in a friendly at Ullevaal Stadium on 16 August 2006, maintaining an unbeaten record against the Brazilians. The Euro 2008 qualifiers began well for Norway with a 4–1 victory in Hungary, their largest away win in qualifiers since October 2001. They followed this with another win against Moldova but struggled in the subsequent matches, earning only one point in the next three games. However, they bounced back strongly with consecutive 4–0 wins at home against Hungary and Malta. In friendly matches, Norway showed their strength by defeating Argentina 2–1 and also secured a 1–0 victory in Moldova. Despite a promising 2–2 draw with Greece, where Norway had the upper hand, their chances of qualifying were dashed when they lost 1–2 to Turkey in a crucial match. Turkey's win over Bosnia and Herzegovina ultimately eliminated Norway from the final stages of qualification.
