Throughout the season, Lyon maintained their lead but faced strong competition from Bordeaux until the final matchday. By defeating AJ Auxerre, Lyon secured their seventh consecutive league title, breaking the record for consecutive championships won in France. In the French Cup, Olympique Lyonnais reached their first semi-final since 1998 and faced CS Sedan Ardennes. Juninho's late goal in that match allowed them to achieve a milestone not reached since the 1976 French Cup. The final, held at the Stade de France on May 24th against Paris SG, remained goalless through regular time, leading to extra time.
