In the 1995-96 season, Salernitana finished 5th in Serie B, narrowly missing promotion to Serie A by just 3 points. They were eliminated in the first round of the Coppa Italia and reached the semifinals of the Anglo-Italian Cup, where they lost on penalties to Genoa. The season was marked by managerial changes and a mid-season dip in form, but they recovered in the second half of the season. The club also faced a 4-point penalty for administrative irregularities, later overturned after appeal.
