The 2006–07 season marked Arsenal Football Club's 15th year in the Premier League and their 81st consecutive season in the top tier of English football. This was the first season played at the Emirates Stadium, which has a capacity of over 60,000, as the former stadium, Highbury, was being transformed into a residential area. Arsenal finished the Premier League in fourth place, tied on points with third-placed Liverpool but with a slightly inferior goal difference. In the League Cup, which provided manager Arsène Wenger the opportunity to field younger players, Arsenal made it to the final but lost to a more experienced Chelsea team. This setback was compounded by early exits in the FA Cup against Blackburn Rovers and in the UEFA Champions League against PSV Eindhoven. Throughout the season, 28 players represented Arsenal across four competitions, resulting in 18 different goalscorers. The club's leading scorer was Robin van Persie, who netted 13 goals in 31 appearances.
