Established in 1901, the club enjoyed its heyday from the 1920s until 1987, playing at Glenmalure Park Stadium and becoming the most successful club in the country. They amassed numerous titles and cups and contributed 62 players to the national team. However, after the demolition of their stadium in 1987, the club struggled to find a permanent home and played at various grounds until the construction of Tallaght Stadium. After 22 years without a home ground, Tallaght Stadium opened on March 13, 2009, hosting the club's first home game of the season against Sligo Rovers.
