The 1990–91 season was a dramatic one for Aberdeen, filled with highs and heartbreaks. Managed by Alex Smith and Jocky Scott, the team came agonizingly close to winning the Scottish Premier Division. Heading into the final match of the season, Aberdeen were top of the league but lost 2–0 to Rangers, who claimed the title instead. In cup competitions, Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup defense ended early, with a third-round loss to Motherwell at Pittodrie. They fared slightly better in the League Cup, reaching the semi-finals, only to be knocked out by Rangers again. On the European stage, Aberdeen reached the second round of the Cup Winners' Cup but were eliminated by Legia Warsaw. Hans Gillhaus and Eoin Jess were key players, both scoring 15 goals in all competitions and leading the team’s attack. Despite falling short of silverware, the season showcased the team’s quality and determination in what was one of their most competitive campaigns
