After Umbro had been allowed to manufacture Lazio Roma's shirts earlier in the 1970s, another ten-year deal was signed between the Roman club and the British manufacturer in 1989. The jersey that year was also sponsored by Banco di Danto Spirito, or the Bank of the Holy Spirit. This was the bank founded by Pope Paul 5 in 1605.
