Holygrail shirt, matchworn Ajax '89-'90 away, worn by Bryan Roy and John van 't Schip during this season. Hopefully one day I will find this shirt in longsleeve!
Umbro & Ajax did an amazing job in the late 80s and early 90s. Here you can see a true classic of the 1989-1991 season. This away shirt is one of the most iconic & best known designs. The season where such talented players played at Ajax in the name of Blind, de Boer brothers, Bergkamp under the lead of Leo Beenhakker with assistant coach Louis van Gaal.
Leo Beenhakker took over as coach on July 1, 1989, with Spitz Kohn and Louis van Gaal joining as his assistants. Midway through 1989, Pal Fischer and Edwin van der Sar were included in the squad. The 1989/90 season saw Ajax reclaim the championship after a five-year drought. The team boasted talents like Dennis Bergkamp, Stefan Pettersson, brothers Rob and Richard Witschge, Bryan Roy, Aron Winter, and Marciano Vink.
