Celtic’s 1993–94 season was another turbulent chapter in the club’s early‑90s struggle to regain stability. Managed first by Liam Brady, then briefly Frank Connor, and finally Lou Macari, Celtic finished 4th in the Scottish Premier Division — a year marked by inconsistency, low scoring, and an extraordinary 20 league draws. They were competitive but rarely convincing, often lacking cutting edge in tight matches.
Cup competitions brought mixed fortunes: Celtic reached the League Cup semi‑finals, beating Arbroath 9–1 along the way, but lost to Rangers. In the Scottish Cup, they were eliminated early by Motherwell. Their UEFA Cup run ended in the second round after a narrow aggregate defeat to Sporting CP. Pat McGinlay was the standout performer, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals.

Celtic’s 1994–95 season under Tommy Burns was chaotic, transitional, and ultimately redeemed by a long‑awaited trophy. Forced to play home matches at Hampden Park during the rebuilding of Celtic Park, the team struggled for rhythm in the league, finishing 4th with an unusually high number of draws (18 in 36 matches). Performances swung wildly — from a famous 2–0 win at Ibrox early in the season to frustrating scoreless draws and unexpected defeats.
The turning point came in the Scottish Cup, where Celtic built momentum and reached the final. On 27 May 1995, Pierre van Hooijdonk scored the decisive goal against Airdrieonians, delivering a 1–0 win and Celtic’s first major trophy in six years. The League Cup run also reached the final, but Celtic lost on penalties to Raith Rovers.
