Claude Puel's team achieved a series of impressive results in the latter half of the season, finishing fourth and securing a spot in the UEFA Cup, just missing out on Lyon’s position in the UEFA Champions League. Monaco's squad featured players like Fabien Barthez, Willy Sagnol, David Trezeguet, Dado Prso, Rafael Márquez, John Arne Riise, Pablo Contreras, Marco Simone, Philippe Christanval, Marcelo Gallardo, Sabri Lamouchi, and Ludovic Giuly. The club, known as the Rock, claimed their seventh French league title in 2000, having dominated the competition. However, they were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France by FC Nantes, just falling short of reaching the final against Calais for a potential double. The only setback of the season was the exit of Mallorca31 in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Cup.
