The 1995–96season marked Liverpool F.C.'s 104th year of existence and their 34th consecutive year in the top-flight. September began with a setback as they suffered a 1–0 defeat against Wimbledon, but they quickly rebounded, securing victories of 3–0 against Blackburn Rovers and 5–2against newly promoted Bolton Wanderers (with Robbie Fowler netting four times), ending the month in third place. Despite their domestic success, their European journey was cut short in the UEFA Cup, as they were unexpectedly eliminated by Danish side Brøndby in the second round after overcoming Spartak Vladikavkaz in the first round. The pinnacle of the season came with the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 11May 1996, where Liverpool, unfortunately, fell short, losing 0-1.
