Telstar is a professional football club based in Velsen-IJmuiden. The club was founded on July 17, 1963, when rival teams VSV from Velsen and Stormvogels from IJmuiden decided to merge their professional divisions and continue as amateur clubs. The new club was named Telstar, inspired by the recently launched communications satellite. Telstar lived up to its name by becoming a satellite club of AFC Ajax for several seasons starting in the 1985/86 season through a partnership. The team plays its home matches at the 711 Stadium. Since its establishment in 1963, Telstar has used the instrumental track "Telstar" by The Tornados as the entrance music for its home games.
