FC Utrecht was the first club outside the traditional 'top three' (Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord) to win the Johan Cruijff Schaal (formerly the Supercup) and has never been relegated from the Eredivisie. This stability is partly due to FC Utrecht's relatively recent establishment and its predecessor, DOS, which was continuously in the Eredivisie from its inception until 1970. In 2002, FC Utrecht lost the KNVB Cup final to Ajax, but under the management of Foeke Booy, they won the cup in 2003 and 2004.
