Rangers played 50 official matches in the 2002-03 season and achieved their seventh domestic treble under manager Alex McLeish, who had taken over from Dick Advocaat the previous season. They won the league championship on goal difference with a 6-1 victory against Dunfermline Athletic in the final match, finishing with a +73 goal difference, just one ahead of Celtic. The team won the League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Celtic and the Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win against Dundee. Despite their domestic success, Rangers were eliminated from European competition in the first round by the little-known Czech team Viktoria Žižkov, losing on away goals.
