The team finished 4th in the Bundesliga, just missing out on a Champions League spot but earning qualification for the UEFA Cup. Throughout the league campaign, Dortmund displayed consistency, racking up 15 wins, 9 draws, and 10 losses—scoring 49 goals and conceding 45.

In European competition, Dortmund made a strong showing in the UEFA Cup, reaching the quarter-finals. While their domestic cup journey ended early with a second-round exit in the DFB-Pokal, their league form kept them among the top sides in Germany.
