Founded in 1893, Genoa is the oldest active Italian football club and one of the most prestigious. The club has won nine Scudetti, with its first victory in 1898 being the first in Italian football history. These successes, achieved between 1898 and 1923-1924, established Genoa as the initial dominant force in Italian football, a status it maintained until the pre-war period. For its first sixty years, Genoa was the most successful Italian team, either alone or tied, until being surpassed by Juventus after World War II and later by Inter and AC Milan. Genoa has also won one Coppa Italia, six Serie B championships (a record shared with Atalanta), two Alpine Cups, an Anglo-Italian Cup, and a Friendship Cup. Additionally, the club has participated in the Central European Cup five times, the Karl Rappan Cup once, and the UEFA Cup/Europa League twice, reaching the semi-finals in the 1991-1992 edition, their best result in European competition.
