Fiorentina played for 55 years at the highest level when this came to an end in 1993. Fiorentina finished 16th in Serie A and relegated to Serie B. The purple club managed to keep the best players on board, thanks to help from the wealthy Cecchi Gori family. This eventually resulted in Fiorentina becoming champions of Serie B with relative ease and the Florence team quickly regaining the better positions in Serie A in the 1990s.
