Arsenal FC ended the 2009/2010 Premier League season in third place with 75 points, far behind champions Chelsea. They had a disappointing league campaign, losing nine matches and never seriously contending for the title. In the UEFA Champions League, they reached the quarter-finals but were defeated by FC Barcelona. Their FA Cup and League Cup runs ended early with eliminations in the fourth and fifth rounds, respectively. One notable match against Stoke City saw them win 1-3 but was marred by a serious injury to Aaron Ramsey due to a tackle by Ryan Shawcross. Despite this setback, Ramsey recovered and returned to the squad after a long rehabilitation. The season also saw the return of Eduardo da Silva from injury, while Sol Campbell briefly rejoined the club. Wenger made minimal signings, with Thomas Vermaelen being the only notable addition. Key departures included Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Touré to Manchester City. Cesc Fàbregas was appointed as the team's captain, marking his resurgence from previous injuries.
