In the 2001–02 season, Como Calcio won the Serie B title, finishing 1st with 74 points, securing promotion to Serie A after 13 years. Under Loris Dominissini, the team had a consistent campaign, earning 38 points in the first half and 36 in the second. Their success was largely driven by Luis Oliveira, who scored 23 league goals, making him the Serie B top scorer. Como also had a strong Coppa Italia run, winning their qualification group and eliminating Fiorentina before falling to Brescia in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout.
