In the summer of 2003, as a result of the Catania affair , Fiorentina was admitted to Serie B: the Tuscans, who had won C2 the previous year, rose further in the category to replace the failed Cosenza in an expanded division (24 teams on the starting lineup). After a first round with inconsistent results Alberto Cavasin was replaced on the bench by Mondonico in February 2004 . The Viola managed to move up the ranking and finished in sixth place. The position qualified the Gigliati for the interdivisional playoff, to which Perugia was also admitted (fifteenth in Serie A). The outward match in Umbria was decided by a goal by Fantini; in the return match the same striker broke the deadlock, with the Grifoni only equalizing towards the end. The positive outcome of the double equation earned Fiorentina a return to Serie A, just two years after relegation. Enrico Fantini broke through from Juventus' Youth Training and played 1 game in the old lady's first. Via Cremonese, Venezia and Chievo, among others, the striker joined Fiorentina in 2004. In 2004, he contributed to Fiorentina's promotion to Serie A, eventually making 48 appearances for Fiorentina in two seasons. He later played for Torino and Bologna.
