Irish midfielder McLoughlin began his career with Manchester United, but did not get many playing minutes there. He continued his career at Swindon Town and later the 42-time international played for Southampton and Aston Villa, among others. The Irish national team has unfortunately never been able to celebrate big prizes and success. However, in the eighties and nineties, the Irish had a very talented team. The Irish qualified for the first time for a World Cup tournament in '90 under the leadership of Jack Charlton. The highlight was reaching the 9th place in the FIFA world rankings in 1994. Perhaps Irish successes will be celebrated in the future.
