Manchester City played against Twente in the group stage of the Europa League and won over the Dutch club 3-2. City eventually reached the quarter-finals that tournament against Hamburg SV, but lost 3-4 over two games. Shay Given was goalkeeper at Manchester City at the time when the blue club from Manchester started becoming a top European club. He played two years at city and made 50 appearances.
