The London-based club concluded the season in fourteenth place in the league, securing a total of thirteen wins, fourteen draws, and fifteen defeats. Chelsea embarked on their FA Cup journey from the third round, clinching a 2-0 victory against Hull City. They continued with a 1-0 win over Everton in the fourth round and triumphed over Sheffield United in the fifth round. However, in the sixth round, they drew 1-1 against Sunderland FC, eventually suffering a 1-2 defeat in the replay and consequent elimination. In the Football League Cup, Chelsea commenced from the second round, drawing 1-1 in the first leg against Tranmere Rovers and enduring a 1-3 defeat in the return leg, leading to their elimination. Entering the Full Members Cup in the second round, Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory against Swindon Town. They drew 2-2 against Ipswich Town in the third round, advancing 4-3 after penalties. Progressing to the semi-finals, they defeated Crystal Palace FC 1-0, but were eventually eliminated by Southampton in the southern area final, losing 0-2 and 1-3 respectively.
