The next major competition was held jointly with Belgium, Euro 2000, and Frank Rijkaard was the coach. In the group stage they beat the Czech Republic, Denmark and France and advanced to the quarter-finals against Yugoslavia. In this match Kluivert scored three goals, Overmars two and another own goal to finish 6-1. However, despite being the hosts, they lost to Italy in the semi-finals on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
