The 1998–99 season was one of Parma AC's most successful campaigns. Under manager Alberto Malesani, the club finished 4th in Serie A, securing a Champions League spot. More impressively, Parma won both the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup, defeating Fiorentina and Marseille, respectively. The squad featured key players like Hernán Crespo, who was the top scorer, and defensive stalwarts Fabio Cannavaro and Lilian Thuram.

Despite their triumphs, Parma faced a setback in the summer when Juan Sebastián Verón left for Lazio, prompting the club to sign Ariel Ortega as his replacement. While the team remained competitive, Verón’s departure marked the beginning of a shift in Parma’s dominance
