The 1995-96 season began with a plethora of new faces in the team, led by Rafael Benítez, but disappointing results led to his dismissal. Marcos Fernández opted to reappoint Vicente Cantatore as coach, with which Cantatore entered his second spell at the club. Under Cantatore, the young Valladolid slowly but surely began to find stability. Fernández's promise not to sell and to strengthen the team created high expectations in the city, resulting in a subscriber base of over 18,000 for the upcoming league. During the season, players such as Valladolid, Peternac, César, Víctor and Benjamín stood out and were crucial for the seventh-place finish in the league, which still secured Valladolid a spot in the UEFA Cup.
