The season kicked off with Bayern winning the League Cup and advancing to the group stage of the Champions League, where they finished second to Valencia but progressed further. In the Bundesliga, Bayern took the top spot from matchday ten onwards. Following the winter break, they competed in the second group stage of the Champions League, topping their group ahead of Real Madrid. However, they were defeated by Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

Despite losing their lead in the league, Bayern managed to clinch the title on the final day, thanks to a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen's loss to Unterhaching. They also won the German Cup by defeating Werder in the final, completing a double triumph for the season.
