Bastia, the club of the French island of Corsica was founded in 1905. The club has a rich culture and history and played at the highest level in France in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1981 it won the French Cup by defeating Saint-Ettiene 2-1 at the Parc des Princes in Paris. The club was relegated in the late 1980s, but eight years later they were back at the top level.
