Anderlecht’s 1995–96 season was a year of transition and disappointment by the club’s lofty standards. After winning the Belgian title the previous season, expectations were high, but Anderlecht could only finish 2nd in the Belgian First Division, behind rivals Club Brugge. The team still possessed plenty of talent and experience, relying on attacking quality from Pär Zetterberg and Luc Nilis, while captain Bertrand Crasson provided leadership. In Europe, Anderlecht competed in the UEFA Champions League, facing strong opposition and gaining valuable experience, but they were unable to make a deep run. Despite ending the season without major silverware, the campaign featured attractive attacking football and several standout individual performances.
