Umbro was a loyal sponsor of the Blue club from London. As the first Jersey maker it had a deal with Chelsea from 1975 to 1981 and later a partnership from 1987 to 2006. Chelsea had a tumultuous period in the 1980s where they were relegated twice but eventually came back to the top tier. In the 1990s, the club grew into a top Premier League club.
