In the summer of 1991, President Mario Cecchi Gori made significant acquisitions for the team, including striker Marco Branca, playmaker Pietro Maiellaro, goalkeeper Alessandro Mannini, and Brazilian midfielder Mazinho. However, the standout addition was the young Argentine striker, Gabriel Batistuta, who would go on to become a symbol of Fiorentina for the next decade. Under the management of Brazilian coach Sebastião Lazaroni initially, and later Luigi Radice from the sixth matchday onwards, the team secured safety by finishing in 12th place in the Serie A table. Despite their early exit in the Italian Cup, where they were eliminated by Parma in the round of 16, Batistuta emerged as the top scorer for Fiorentina that season, netting a total of 14goals, with 13of them coming in Serie A alone.
