RSC Anderlecht aimed for their 25th national title by appointing Aimé Anthuenis for the 1999/00 season. Anthuenis, fresh from winning the championship with Racing Genk, aimed to replicate that success with Anderlecht. New signing Jan Koller from Sporting Lokeren joined to partner Tomasz Radzinski up front. A crucial match against Genk awaited Anderlecht on the penultimate matchday of the season. In the Belgian Cup, Anderlecht suffered an early exit, losing 1-4 after extra time to second division side KSV Ingelmunster. However, they qualified for the UEFA Cup by defeating Slovenian club FC Ljubljana in the first round. Their journey ended in the second round against Bologna; despite winning 2-1 at home, Anderlecht were defeated 3-0 in the return leg. Anderlecht also claimed victory in the final edition of the League Cup.
