In 2002, the team was once again entrusted to Hiddink, who had just achieved fourth place in the Japan-Korea World Cup with South Korea. Park Ji-sung, a member of that team, was signed alongside Arjen Robben, and the team secured their seventeenth national title. The following season saw the arrival of another Korean player, Lee Young-Pyo, and the team finished second in the Eredivisie, six points behind league leaders Ajax. They also placed third again in the Champions League group stage and returned to compete in the UEFA Cup.
