Juventus Football Club experienced their least successful season since finishing 12th in Serie A in 1961–62. Under the management of Luigi Maifredi, the team ended the season in 7th place, despite having set a world record transfer fee to acquire Fiorentina star striker Roberto Baggio. Although Juventus had been in contention for the Scudetto, they faltered in the second half of the season, winning only one match over a ten-game stretch, which resulted in a decline to the upper mid-table.
