In the 2005/2006 Premier League season, Arsenal FC played their final games at Highbury, their home since 1913, before moving to the new Emirates Stadium. On 7 May 2006, they bid farewell to Highbury with a 4-2 victory over Wigan Athletic. This season also marked the retirement of Dennis Bergkamp, a key player who had been with Arsenal for ten seasons, winning three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and three FA Community Shields.

Despite a strong squad, Arsenal finished fourth in the league, with Thierry Henry as the new captain following Patrick Vieira's departure to Inter Milan. Henry excelled, winning the Premier League Golden Boot for the third consecutive time with 27 goals, making him a four-time laureate and the record holder. Gilberto Silva regained prominence in midfield, and Emmanuel Eboué replaced long-time right-back Lauren Etame Mayer. Robin van Persie, in his second season, struggled to secure a regular spot due to the presence of José Antonio Reyes.

Arsenal reached the UEFA Champions League final for the second time, but lost 2-1 to FC Barcelona, with Juliano Belletti scoring the decisive goal in the 81st minute. Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off early in the match, leaving Manuel Almunia to step in. In the FA Cup, Arsenal were eliminated by Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round, and in the League Cup, they reached the semi-finals but were knocked out by Wigan Athletic.
