The 2004–05 season marked Chelsea Football Club's 91st competitive season, 13th consecutive season in the Premier League, and 99th year as a club. Under the management of José Mourinho, in his debut season with the club, Chelsea secured the Premier League title for the first time in 50 years and won the League Cup. The season was historic due to numerous Premier League records set by Chelsea, including: - Most points in a season (95) - Most away wins in a season (15) - Most clean sheets in a season (25) - Fewest goals conceded away in a season (9) - Most wins in a season (29) - Fewest goals conceded in a season (15) As of 2024, Chelsea still holds the records for most clean sheets and fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season. Following their previous season’s near-miss on the title to an unbeaten Arsenal, Chelsea continued their heavy investment to build a competitive squad. In their second season under Roman Abramovich's ownership, they signed five players for over £10 million each, including Didier Drogba from Marseille and Ricardo Carvalho from Porto. Portuguese defender Paulo Ferreira also joined from Porto. In the Champions League, Chelsea aimed to surpass their semi-final finish from the previous year but only managed to match it. They were eliminated from the FA Cup in the fifth round by Newcastle United, who went on to become semi-finalists.
