In the 1992–93 season, Inter Milan finished second in Serie A, narrowly trailing AC Milan by four points. The team's resurgence followed the sale of several German internationals, allowing for the acquisition of key players like Igor Shalimov and Rubén Sosa, who became vital to their success. Sosa was the top scorer with 20 goals in the league. Inter also reached the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia but did not secure any other major trophies. Despite this, the season marked a significant improvement for the club. In the 1993–94 season, Inter Milan struggled in Serie A, finishing 13th, their worst result in modern history. They also faced challenges in the Coppa Italia, reaching the quarter-finals. However, their European campaign was a success, as they won the UEFA Cup after defeating Casino Salzburg in the final. Despite poor league form, with Rubén Sosa as top scorer (16 goals), and managerial changes during the season, Inter’s victory in Europe was the highlight of their campaign.
