Manchester United’s 2002–03 season under Sir Alex Ferguson saw the club reclaim the Premier League title, their 8th in 11 years, finishing five points clear of Arsenal after overturning an eight‑point deficit in March. The campaign was defined by the prolific form of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored 25 league goals and 44 in all competitions, including a decisive run of strikes in the title race. United also reached the League Cup final, losing 2–0 to Liverpool, and were eliminated in the FA Cup fifth round by Arsenal. In Europe, they advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals, where they lost 6–5 on aggregate to Real Madrid in a tie remembered for Ronaldo’s hat-trick at Old Trafford. The season also featured the record signing of Rio Ferdinand from Leeds, strengthening the defense, while it ended with the departure of David Beckham to Real Madrid and the retirement of veteran Laurent Blanc.

In the 2003–04 season Manchester United, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, finished 3rd in the Premier League behind Arsenal’s “Invincibles” and Chelsea, but won the FA Cup with a 3–0 victory over Millwall and lifted the Community Shield against Arsenal; their Champions League run ended in the Round of 16 against Porto, while Ruud van Nistelrooy remained the main goal threat and Cristiano Ronaldo began to emerge as a future star in his debut season.
