In Scala's final season at the helm, Parma secured a sixth-place finish in the league. The year began with optimism, fueled in part by the acquisition of former Ballon d'Or winner Hristo Stoičkov from Barcelona. Goalkeeper Buffon made his Serie A debut at just 17 years old on November 19, 1995, in a match against AC Milan. Another future World Cup champion with Italy, Fabio Cannavaro, also debuted for Parma that season after being purchased from Napoli to help the club's financial situation. However, Parma's journey in the Coppa Italia ended in the second round against Palermo, and they were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup by Paris Saint-Germain.
