Parma’s 2001–02 season was a campaign of resilience and cup success during a difficult period for the club and its owner Parmalat. In Serie A, Parma finished 10th, struggling for consistency despite having a talented squad featuring rising stars and established internationals. However, the season was rescued by an excellent run in the Coppa Italia, where Parma defeated Udinese, Torino, Inter and Brescia before overcoming Juventus in the final on away goals. Young striker Adriano made a growing impact after arriving in January, while Marco Di Vaio provided goals throughout the season and Hidetoshi Nakata added creativity in midfield. Although their league form disappointed, lifting the Coppa Italia ensured the campaign ended on a high note and secured European football for the following year.
