The 1998–99 season was an eventful one for PSV Eindhoven under manager Bobby Robson. The team finished 3rd in the Eredivisie, securing Champions League qualification on the final day of the season. They also won the Johan Cruyff Shield, showcasing their competitive spirit. However, their Champions League campaign ended in the group stage, and they reached the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup.

Key players included Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was the top scorer with 31 goals, Luc Nilis, a consistent attacking force, and Ronald Waterreus, who provided stability in goal. This season marked the end of Bobby Robson's tenure, with Eric Gerets taking over as manager for the following season.
