The 1994–95 season was a successful one for Rangers F.C. They won the Scottish Premier Division, finishing 16 points ahead of Motherwell. However, their cup campaigns were less fruitful, as they were eliminated in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup by Hearts and in the third round of the League Cup by Falkirk. In Europe, their UEFA Champions League journey ended in the first round against AEK Athens. Key signings included Brian Laudrup, Basile Boli, and Alan McLaren, while Duncan Ferguson departed for Everton. The season was overshadowed by the tragic death of club legend Davie Cooper in March 1995. Mark Hateley was the team's top scorer, with 15 goals in all competitions.

Rangers enjoyed another dominant season under Walter Smith, winning their eighth consecutive Scottish league title and completing a domestic double by lifting the Scottish Cup. The club finished 1st in the Scottish Premier Division and ended the season in style with a 5–1 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final, with Gordon Durie scoring a hat-trick. Rangers also reached the Champions League group stage, facing Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Steaua București, but finished bottom of the group with three draws and three defeats. The season was notable for the arrival of Paul Gascoigne in a Scottish record transfer, and he repaid the investment by scoring 19 goals and winning the club’s Player of the Year award. Gordon Durie finished as Rangers’ top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions, helping the club secure another highly successful campaign.
