During the 2002–03 season, Rangers competed in a total of 50 matches. Under manager Alex McLeish's first full season in charge, they secured their seventh domestic treble, following Dick Advocaat's departure the previous season. The league championship was clinched in the final match with a decisive 6–1 victory against Dunfermline Athletic, winning on goal difference by just one ahead of Celtic. Additionally, they won the League Cup with a 2–1 final victory against Celtic and the Scottish Cup with a 1–0 win against Dundee. Despite their domestic success, Rangers were eliminated from Europe in the first round by Czech team Victoria Zizkov, losing on the away goals rule.
