The full name of the club is Sportvereniging Roda Juliana Combinatie Kerkrade. Formed in 1962 from the merger of Roda Sport and Rapid JC, the club has been playing its home games at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion since September 2000. Under the leadership of Nol Hendriks, Roda JC achieved significant success in the 1990s and early 2000s. They secured a notable second-place finish in the Eredivisie in the 1994–95 season and won the KNVB Cup twice, in 1996–97 and 1999–2000. These achievements led to multiple European competition appearances. In the 1997–98 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, Roda was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Vicenza, losing 1–9 on aggregate. A memorable European moment occurred on 28 February 2002 when, after a 0–1 loss to AC Milan in Kerkrade, Roda won the return leg 1–0 at San Siro with a goal by Mark Luijpers. Despite taking the lead in the penalty shoot-out, Roda ultimately lost, falling just one penalty short of eliminating Milan.
