Schalke’s 1991–92 season was their long‑awaited return to the Bundesliga after promotion, and it became a year of adaptation, turbulence and flashes of promise. Under Aleksandar Ristić, later replaced by Klaus Fischer, Schalke finished 11th, a respectable mid‑table result for a newly promoted side. The team mixed heavy defeats — like the 5–0 loss at Frankfurt — with spectacular highs, including a famous 5–2 derby win over Borussia Dortmund at the Parkstadion. Schalke were inconsistent but spirited, driven by the goals of Ingo Anderbrügge and Peter Sendscheid, while Jens Lehmann played every league match in goal. Their DFB‑Pokal run ended immediately in the second round against Rot‑Weiß Erfurt. Overall, 1991–92 was a season of survival, learning and laying foundations for the stronger years that followed.
