In the 2000–01 season, Roda JC was one of the surprises of Dutch football, finishing 4th in the Eredivisie under Sef Vergoossen. This was their highest league finish since the turn of the century, securing a spot in the UEFA Cup. The team impressed with their attacking style and consistency throughout the season.
