In the 1992–93 season, after months of negotiations, Argentine superstar Diego Maradona joined Sevilla from Napoli for $7.5 million. However, his tenure was marred by injuries and conflicts with coach Bilardo, leading to his release. In subsequent seasons, Luis Aragonés took over as manager and secured UEFA Cup qualification for the 1994–95 season. At the end of the 1994–95 season, Sevilla, along with Celta de Vigo, was relegated from La Liga due to administrative issues despite the club directors' objections. This sparked protests from fans, resulting in both clubs being reinstated to La Liga. These turbulent events caused significant instability within the club, with four presidents and three managers taking charge in a single season. Ultimately, Sevilla was relegated again at the end of the 1996–97 season but made a return to the top flight in 1999.
