West Ham United was sponsored in the turn of the century by the well-known London-based shoe brand. The club had been playing in the premier league since the early 1990s, rotating in the middle of the highest division in England. French defender Sebastien Schemmel played two seasons for the Hammers, during which he made over 60 appearances. Schemmel came to West Ham in January 2001. At the end of the 01-02 season, he was named 'Hammer of The Year' by West Ham fans.
