During the 1997-1998 season, Ajax Amsterdam was managed by Morten Olsen after the success coach Louis van Gaal. One of the key players in the team was indeed Danny Blind. This shirt has been issued by him during this season as it was not commercially available in longsleeves and the sponsor is embossed in comparison to the sublimated sponsor on the fan version.

AFC Ajax had a very successful season in 1997-1998, winning the Dutch Eredivisie title by a comfortable margin of 17 points over their nearest rivals, PSV Eindhoven. They also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they were knocked out by Juventus. 

In July 1986, Daley Blind joined Ajax, following an invitation from technical director Johan Cruijff. He transitioned to a central defender in 1992 and went on to achieve an extraordinary list of accomplishments unique in international football. Over his 13 seasons at Ajax, Blind won every conceivable club-level title, including league titles, national cups, and various prestigious European trophies like the UEFA Champions League and the Club World Cup. On May 16, 1999, he retired from his playing career.

Blind's Eredivisie journey consisted of 537 matches and 45 goals. He also notably played in 10 European Cup matches for Sparta and an impressive 79 for Ajax, including 4 European Super Cup matches and 1 Club World Cup match, setting a record in the process.
